The Woodland School District 50 approved their tentative budget which spends over $8 million dollars more than they receive.

Woodland board members recently approved a tentative budget showing a projected $68 million in revenue and $76.4 million in expenditures. Board members are expected to approve the final budget Sept. 27. Community members may comment on the tentative budget to Associate Superintendent Robert Leonard before it’s up for a final vote. “The board has gone over the budget several times,†Leonard said before a board meeting last week. |
I would encourage the residents of the Woodland School district to let their feeling be know. It is time to speak up now. Don’t wait until the board meeting on the 27th. You can contact Mr. Leonard at (847) 856-3582 email him at bleonard@dist50.net.

Long before students returned to school last week, Woodland board members approved a package of budget cuts and new revenue streams to bolster its financial situation. The district’s cash flow is expected to improve by slightly more than $2 million. Higher registration fees and lunch prices are among the ways District 50 will collect more money this year. At least $360,616 is projected from the new revenue sources. Budget cuts totaled about $1.7 million. They included elimination of an elementary music teacher position and three special education resource instructor jobs. |
The article makes is seem like the board is doing a wonderful job making cuts. This makes you wonder even more about the decision to place cameras in their buses. What about those teacher raise given out in the last contract? These are the problems the board needs to held accountable for. They increased spending faster than revenue. They will be back at the taxpayer trough soon enough asking for more money.
School Board Member Micheal Bond is running for State Senate. When he or his supporters visit your house please ask them why you should vote for someone who is not fiscally responsible with taxpayer money at the local level? How can you trust him to be fiscally responsible with your money at the State level?

Woodland school is starting to be a substandard school.
The School Board approve spending approx, a quarter of a million
on cameras for all of the school buses, we pay for the lease of
all the buses, we pay for the fuel, we pay to repair the buses,
we pay to house the buses and I’m not even sure who the drivers
work for…is it Jones or the company out of England?
Most of the Bus drivers (not all) look like they came from the
backwoods. From what I read in the Sun-times a while back the
State of Illinois barred Jones Bus Service from certifying
drivers for 30 days after the company approved a driver who did
not even have a learners permit. Now I hear the school boards
lawyers are getting ready to fight the union and have taken it
to the federal court level in Springfield, Illinois.
Must be nice to have all that tax payers money in the boards
wallet!
“Now I hear the school boards lawyers are getting ready to fight the union and have taken it to the federal court level in Springfield, Illinois.”
If you have more information about this please let me know.
Remember, your school board member, Michael Bond is running for State Senator. You should pass your information along to all your neighbors. If he can’t help balance the budget at Woodland, how is going to balance the budget in Springfield?
Sure makes you wonder how much in lawyers fees this is costing
us. I also wonder about the back pay if the school board
loses the case. They have already lost 3 times.
And what about back pay and interest to 100 drivers!
Now that has to be a ton of cash in back pay!
