Grayslake North: No Parking

The students at Grayslake North will not be allowed to park in the Heatherwood subdivision. There were too many complaints last year from the residents according to the report in the News-Sun.

Police Chief Douglas Larsson said residents in Heatherwood subdivision have filed numerous complaints regarding traffic congestion and teen problems relating to the high school campus

“Students will not be allowed to park in the subdivision unless they have permission of a resident,” Larsson said, adding that the first step in the process is to educate students and the public regarding student parking.

The students will get a reprieve for the first week and will just receive warnings. After that tickets will be issued unless they have the homeowner’s permission. I wonder if any homeowners will be enterprising and start renting parking spots to students in their driveways.

This was also in the Daily Herald this weekend:

A familiar story: A high school opens in a residential neighborhood; students park on streets because school lots are too small; residents complain; municipal officials intervene. It happened this week, when Round Lake Beach officials banned student parking on streets near Grayslake North High School. If students were a little more respectful of homeowners, and if homeowners were a little less freaked out by the presence of teens, street parking might work out OK. But, as those conditions never seem to occur, parking bans remain the solution of choice.
