CCSD #46 Receives Highest Ranking

April 3, 2006 by

While many schools finances improved this year, 12 in Lake County received lower state financial rankings. D 46 moved up receiving the highest ranking. This is an excellent achievement considering 4 failed education fund referendum over the past several years. It shows what a school board and district can do when working together to find alternatives and more efficient ways to educate our children.

Grayslake Elementary District 46 was one of four districts in the county that moved up the state’s list, receiving the highest ranking of “recognition.”

Business manager Dan Aggen said it was good to be on sure footing with the state.

“I think it’s a huge testament to the fact that this district is getting on the right track financially,” he said.

Interesting that the sign would be displayed at a current board member’s place of employment…..

Why is that so interesting? She was on the board for 2 years prior to the last election.

Except that it wasn’t her position that resulted in the turnaround. She was, and is, against everything that produced that result. What’s interesting is that the sign might indicate she’s taking some of the credit.

Which seating of the board would have been responsible for the actions that led to Financial Recognition? The one seated this summer or the one seated previous to that?

There have been several comments about who gets to take credit for this. Many give all the credit to the past board and administration. I would have to say it is a combination of the two.

The previous board did end up with a surplus. This was despite the fact that they claimed through 4 referendum attempts they had no money and the State was going to come in and take over the district. The only credit they deserve is a dubious one since a major portion of the money left was because they cut the childrens art, music and gifted programs.

The new board took over in April and I believe prevented the past board from spending down the surplus at the end of the year. This board proved the cuts that were previously made were unneccessary when they restored the majority of the programs without a referendum.

I have children in district 46 and just realized a few months ago that this website was here. I can’t believe all of you sit here and fight over serious issues on education. Get a grip or a job for that matter and focus on what’s important…OUR KIDS!!! Fighting on a web site is pathetic, do something about the problems don’t cause them. For those of you sitting around complaining why don’t you volunteer in the classroom. If you are unhappy with the board pass valid information along to your friends so they can stay on top of the issues as well and fight for what’s right. I went to the board meeting about the teachers contract and the room wasn’t full. Shame on parents for not going to support the people who spend their lives teaching and helping our children. They are caught in the middle. Grayslake is a great community and we don’t need to constantly be viewed in a negative light in the papers.

Sorry, but over 90% of the people who say this are not just trying to mislead other readers into believing they just found this or any other site. They have been here many times in the past and probably commented under a different user.

Why is it that anyone that doesn’t share your point of view must be a liar?

    You Wrote…

First, I don’t know if Mary shares my point of view or not. Her post said multiple things so there was no way of knowing completely.

Second, I said over 90% are trying to mislead other readers. Obviously that leaves 10% that are accurate. Only Mary knows which category she falls into. I just made an observation from past experience.

Joe is not banned. He has made comments since I banned the one very obnoxious commenter. Joe did have several rude comments denied as the comment rules state.

Quote by Mary… “For those of you sitting around complaining why don’t you volunteer in the classroom.”

Mary, with all due respect, this is not true of our family and I am ready to divulge my experience with this.

Last year someone said that if we wanted to be a part of the solution and not just vote down the referendum… volunteer!

This made sense to me… so this school year in August, my children and I wanted to volunteer at what would have been their school if they were public schooled. (Yes”

  11. Mary says:

I have never been rejected when asked to volunteer. I do it weekly in the classroom and have for years. I wonder why your wife was rejected…. hmmmm… if teachers read what you write here on the website it’s very clear to me! By the way, the teacher contract board meeting did not have a full room of parents and that’s the problem. Of course the teachers were there it was about their jobs. Parents should have been there if they cared about the district. As you can see I don’t check in on these comments very often, I have children to raise and educate.

  12. site admin says:

I’m glad that you have not been rejected from volunteering. Let me ask you, is it right for a volunteer to be rejected because of their political views? Aren’t school supposed to be helping all the kids. Are conservatives not allowed to help the children now? What other individuals cannot be allowed to help the children of the district? What about kids helping other kids? I suppose that is wrong too.
