Teacher Contract Lawyer Disbared

The News-Sun had the article below yesterday. Read it and then ask yourself these questions:

  • What other districts did Loren help with these sham contracts?
  • Who else received kickbacks like this?
  • How much has this cost the you?

[Emphasis Mine]

The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Illinois Supreme Court has disbarred Steven Loren, a Highland Park-based lawyer.
————————
According to the ARDC, when Loren was counsel to the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System, he prepared sham contracts designed to make kickbacks appear to be legitimate business payments.

He later pleaded guilty to federal charges of corruptly endeavoring to obstruct and impede the due administration of Internal Revenue Service laws.

How do we stop this type of abuse. I would suggest you start by pressuring your Legislator to require all school district contracts to be publically available online. Also, bring this to the attention of you school board and ask them to put the contracts online voluntarily.

Thanks to a friend who emailed this to me.
