How Abstinence Is Taught In Some Public Schools

Montgomery County, Maryland is teaching abstinence in it’s sex education classess. The problem is the definition of abstinence. There definition describes 3 kinds of abstinence:

  1. No intercourse
  2. withdrawal (ejaculation outside of the body)
  3. rhythm (no intercourse during ovulation)

I’m sorry, but abstinence means abstaining or not doing something. In this particular usage, it means not having sex. Methods 2 and 3 are not abstinence. (Hat tip: Pillage Idiot)

Here is a quote from one of the parents quoting in the Rockford Gazette:

‘‘Since when did the term abstinence change to include the two most ineffective forms of birth control possible?” said Cindy Richards of Potomac. ‘‘Here we have been teaching our kids that abstinence means not having sex, period. What kind of message is this [chart] sending?”

How long before teachers like this claim they are just teaching abstinence?
