Barbara Oilschlager has thrown her hat into the ring to replace Bob Churchill who is vacating his Illoinois House seat to run against Melissa Bean in the 8th Congressional District.

Please let me know who else is running if you know of other candidates. Also, please send any news on either Oilschlager and Cole. They are the only 2 announced candidates that I know of currently.

GRAYSLAKE — Barbara Oilschlager of Grayslake, an administrator with an educational system, has announced her candidacy for the Illinois House in the 62nd District.

The seat currently is held by Robert Churchill of Lake Villa, but Churchill is running for Congress and said he won’t run for re-election to the General Assembly next year.

“I support Barbara,” he said. “She knows education inside and out and education certainly is one of the top issues in this district and in Illinois.”

Oilschlager is director of system services or the Lake County Area Vocational System, administering vocational-technical programs at 16 high schools and at the vocational center in Grayslake.

She is a 16-year-member of the College of Lake County Board of Trustees and has served as the board’s chairman several times.

Oilschlager has held gubernatorial appointments under three different administrations and is currently a member of the Illinois Workforce Investment Board. She has served on the Workforce board’s executive committee.

Oilschlager, 57, was raised in Antioch and attended Antioch High School. She lived in Lake Villa for about 20 years and has been a Grayslake resident for 10 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and a master’s degree in administration from the University of Illinois.

Before she was an administrator, Oilschlager taught at the College of Lake County. She ran for the Lake County Board in 1992, losing a close race in the GOP primary to Suzi Schmidt, current board chairman.

Oilschlager’s husband, Bob, is retired. He formerly was controller for the Brach Candy Co.
