Churchill Enter 8th Congressional District Race
State Representative added his name to the mix of those running against Melissa Bean in the 8th Congressional District Race. He will most likely jump to the top of the Republican pack with his experience in the State Legislature.
Personally, I was hoping he would not have made this jump. He has done a very good job representing our District in Springfield. We’ll see soon how this plays out with some of the other lesser known candidates. It will also be interesting to see who runs to take over Churchill’s seat here in the 62nd District. I know Sandy Cole of the Lake County Board has annouced she is running. If anyone knows of someone else, please let me know.
Churchill has been supportive of D46. He has fought for the taxpayers here against those who want to just raise taxes without regard to its consequences. We need to encourage someone who continue this fight to support the residents of D46 and surrounding school districts.

Churchill fifth GOP 8th District hopeful
By Ralph Zahorik Citing his experience and deep roots in the area, Republican state Rep. Robert Churchill of Lake Villa announced his candidacy Monday for Congress in the 8th District. He is the fifth announced GOP candidate for the House seat currently held by Democrat Melissa Bean of Barrington Township. Party primaries are March 21. Churchill pointed out he is the only Republican candidate to date who has held elected public office and has legislative experience. “What I bring to this race is experience,” he said. “What distinguishes me is the track record I have made. It is clear, long and successful.” Churchill, an attorney, has served in the Illinois House for 19 years and was a House majority leader when Republicans controlled the General Assembly. “My opponents don’t have a track record,” he said. “Voters don’t have the slightest idea of how they’re going to vote. The four other Republican candidates for Congress in the 8th District are former investment banker David McSweeney of Barrington; Teresa Bartels of Countryside Lake near Mundelein, chair of the University Center of Lake County; Aaron Lincoln of Wauconda, a former attorney with the Department of Defense; and Kathy Salvi of Wauconda, wife of former state legislator Al Salvi. While some candidates have built up bigger political war chests, Churchill said he has a head start because of his years of campaigning in the district. “I spent $330,000 in the last two elections,” he said. “They’re starting from scratch … I’ve already represented close to 40 percent of the voters in the district.” Churchill was born and raised in the district and his family has roots in Lake County dating back to 1842. “My family has chosen to live in the district for 163 years. Melissa Bean has not shown up yet,” he said. Bean lives in an area south of Barrington that was cut out of the 8th District when it was represented by Republican Philip Crane. Churchill said he and his Republican opponents “all believe in the basic tenants of the Republican Party: Low taxes, individual rights, a strong defense, a strong economy and clean and limited government.” In addition to serving in the General Assembly, Churchill is a former chairman of the Lake County Republican Party and a five-time delegate to the party’s national convention. Churchill has practiced law for 33 years in a Grayslake firm started by his grandfather in 1903, noting, “102 years on the same corner in downtown Grayslake is a symbol of stability, fairness and trust.” |
