Winthrop Habor Referendum Presentation

The presentation for both proponents and opponents of the Tax Referendum was held today. I was not able to attend.

I was able to obtain the Power Point presentation from CRAFT along with their Q and A presentation.

I asked others for the School Districts presentaion as well. When I receive that I will post it.

    Could someone point me to the District’s budget that is supposed to be posted on their website?

    The presentation on the school website was slightly different than the presentation at the meeting. The main difference was to point out that the champions website includes some of the compensation packages and they felt it was wrong. I disagree taxpayers still pay that money and their retirement is based on the total compensation perhaps they would choose to take a pay cut in their pension.

    I know some school districts are posing contracts, pay tables and approved open meeting school board notes on their websites. It should would be a nice step if all school boards with a website did this. It would go to show how they are being open and honest.

    The Illinois State Board of Education says athat all districts should have their budgets posted on their website.

    “Since budget time is once again on the minds of school business administrators, this is a reminder that if your school district has a website, in accordance with Section 17-1.2 and Section 34-43a of the School Code, you are required to post your budget on your school district’s website. To assist you in meeting this requirement, follow the steps below to convert the ISBE 50-36 Budget Form to a .pdf that can easily be posted to your website. This form can be located on the ISBE website.”

    For the full article go here. Why is the school district not complying with this statute? What are they trying to hide by not showing everyone their budget?

    Does anyone recall whether the district’s presentation on 10/4 indicated that the teachers contract had been ratified? If it did, how does that jibe with the explanation of the contract being ratified at 3:30pm on 10/4, per board president Leech?

    The district presentation on 10/4 did state that the teachers’ contract had been ratified. It is entirely possible that the school board had 2 presentations ready – 1 for a ratified contract situation and one w/o.
