New Administration?

At the District 46 School Board meeting on March 21st, it was recommended that additional administration and staff be hired. This is for the Prarieview School. From what I have been reading is that this still needs to be approved as part of next year’s budget and that the recommendation was still applicable even if the referendum failed. There are agruments both for and against this hiring. Yes, the student population at Prarieview is increasing. But, why hire more staff while students programs are still cut. There should be a way of allowing current teaching staff to help in administrative areas to help keep the costs lower. The main objection I have is that this shows a continued pattern of staff positions coming first instead of the kids.

I have heard Dr. Anderson and other say, there is nothing left to cut or show us the specifics of how we are spending unwisely. The more I hear this and other arguments on why need this item or that item, the more I see a diversion tactic. To me, the school board and proponents of the tax increase are wanting us to focus on the trees so we don’t see the forest. It is very easy to justify each expense as “this won’t affect the budget, that is so minor it has impact on whether we need the tax increase.” Well, when you look at all of it together, these small additions add up and do have an impact.
